Susan Mumma, artist
In addition to her support of the arts through the Seldovia Summer Solstice Music Festival and the Seldovia Arts Council, the Institute for Education and the Arts, the FAR-West Folk Alliance, and her own Crazy Crow Productions, Susan Mumma is herself an accomplished artist and musician.
Fine art
From the realistic to the fanciful, Susan's work is inspired by the world around her, and Seldovia provides plenty of inspiration. About her work in watercolors, stained glass, and other more ephemeral media, Susan says:
I believe that the arts are integral to keeping balance and sanity in our human world. They help us to reflect upon the natural world. Art helps us to communicate to others in ways much deeper than words alone can do. Music sheds lightness and wholeness and order on our experience while the visual arts and drama give our interpretation of it. Art should be the rule rather than the exception to everyday experience.
Susan has taken Master's-level training at the University of Oregon in teaching the creatively gifted and talented, and is a former arts teacher for K-12 at Susan B. English School in Seldovia. She also participates in numerous art workshops in a variety of media sponsored by the Seldovia Arts Council.
